The Shimla police has booked Akash Coaching Institute, Sanjauli (Shimla) for violating the orders issued by the state government under Disaster Management Act 2005, to keep all educational institutes closed till September 7 in the wake of incessant rain in different parts of the state.
The orders were passed to ensure safety of students and staff as the IMD center Shimla has forecasted heavy to very heavy rain in several parts of Himachal Pradesh during this period.
The matter came to light after videos and pictures of the institute conducting regular coaching classes were circulated on social media on Saturday morning.
Taking action on visuals circulated on social media, Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap sent an inspection team headed by ADM Shimla Pankaj Sharma to verify the facts.
On reaching the coaching center it was confirmed the regular classes were being conducted in the morning at 10 AM. The team also procured photographs, videos and messages sent about ongoing classes.
Acting on the report of the inspection team and messages sent through social media, the Deputy Commissioner asked the Superintendent of Police Shimla to register an FIR against the coaching center.
