They marched to Chhota Shimla Police Station, blocked traffic and “Gheraoed” the Police Station, near the HP secretariat, on Monday .
The call for the protest was given by the Shimla District Bar Association and the Himachal Pradesh Bar Association after this matter was brought to their notice.
The protesting lawyers said, “A young lawyer was allegedly manhandled by a police officer near Sanjauli when he asked the policeman on traffic duty the reason for the long traffic jam, on which the officer got infuriated and manhandled the lawyer.”
The lawyers stopped traffic for several hours and raised slogans against the police department, demanding stern action against the guilty policeman.
To tackle the situation SP Shimla and ADGP rushed to the spot, later the lawyers lifted the blockade on their assurance to hold an inquiry into the incident and immediate suspension of the guilty police officer.
