Replying to the allegation of Mandi, Member of Parliament (MP) Kangana Ranaut for issuing her an exorbitant electricity bill of nearly Rs one lakh for her house in Manali during her absence for the past few months, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) has accused actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut of not paying the bill in time, leading to the escalation of the bill to nearly Rs 90000.

The HPSEBL authorities, issuing a clarification on the issue, said, “Mandi MP Kangna Ranaut’s accusation of handing over to her an electricity bill of nearly Rs one lakh during her absence in Manali is false and misleading.”

The authorities said, “A Rs 90,384 bill was issued for two months as Kangna didn’t pay her bills on time; moreover, the sanctioned power load for her house is exceptionally high, being 94.82 kW, nearly 1500 per cent higher than a normal power load in a household.”

Kangana, while addressing a public gathering in Mandi recently, had claimed, “I received an electricity bill of Rs 1 lakh for my house at Manali, where I didn’t even stay; they (state government) have increased the bus fare; agencies conduct probes on samosas. We hear and read all this and feel embarrassed, and I would like to mention they are like wolves, and we need to rescue the state from their claws,” she had said.

In the statement HPSEBL authorities said, “The electricity bill is not for one month; in fact, the bill issued to Kananga Ranaut on March 22 includes the previous month’s unpaid bill of Rs 32,287, and she has been issued a total bill amounting to Rs 90,384.”

The board authorities further clarified, “Kangana had not been paying her power bills on time; the electricity bills of her residence for October, November and December in 2024 amounted to Rs 82,061, and she paid it on January 16. Similarly, she did not pay the power bills for January and February on time, while power consumed at her residence was about 6,000 units and the bill was for Rs 31,367. The power consumption in February was 9,000 units, and the bill was for Rs 58,096, including late payment charges.”

  1. She is too poor to pay her electricity bills. So people from her parliamentary constituency should raise funds in order to help her to pay electricity bills. Otherwise our MP has to lit candle lights or kerosene lamp.
