Mandi sadar Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Omkant Thakur was assaulted by a person involved in illicit mining of sand from the river Beas, near Brindavani check post Mandi, on Monday evening.
A police source said, “SDM Sadar had gone to check illicit sand mining in the river Beas near Brindvani Barriar Mandi on Monday evening and found a person taking away sand from the river. On being questioned by the SDM, the accused hit him with a stone, injuring him seriously and damaging his jaw.”
The police have arrested Hira Ram, son of Narotam Ram, in the case.
