The ruling Bhartiya Janata Party led Mahayuti alliance has retained power with a landslide victory in Maharashtra Assembly election, whereas the ruling JMM has won a comfortable majority in Jharkhand Assembly election.

The BJP candidates were winning or leading in 132 of the 149 seats it contested in Maharashtra Assembly constituencies while together the Mahayuti alliance was ahead in 233 Assembly constituencies out of 288 seats. The Congress led Mahaagri has faced one of the worst defeats in the election and its candidates were winning in 50 Assembly constituencies.

Hemant Soren’s JMM-led alliance was all set to retain Jharkhand as it was leading in at least 56 seats in the 81-member state Assembly on Saturday, as per the Election Commission data.

The performance of the BJP-led NDA, which was seen as confident about its prospects in the state after an aggressive campaign but could win only 24 seats.

The election results of Maharashtra Assembly are being seen as a big jolt to Congress and its alliance partners and a great morale booster for BJP. However, the victory of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi in Wayanad parliamentary seat of Kerala by over 4 lakh votes has come as a relief for the Congress leadership.
