( HP CM inspecting Shanan Power Project)

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “After a century of operation of Shanan Power Project by the Punjab government, the time has come to hand over the project to Himachal Pradesh as the state deserves to get the project after expiration of the lease period.”

The CM said this while talking to media persons at Joginder Nagar after inspection of the project on Friday.  

He said, “The Shanan project does not come under the Punjab Reorganization Act and the state government has filed an appeal in this regard in the Supreme Court of India and the decision of the Apex court would be respected.”

The CM said, “The foundation of the Shanan project was laid more than a century ago and is presently operated by the Punjab government; the purpose of his visit to the project was to assess the present condition of the project,” he added.

He said, “The work on the third phase of Uhl Project in Mandi district would be completed soon and adequate funds would be provided for the ongoing work,  

an additional amount of Rs 85 crore as ‘sovereign guarantee’ for this project has been given by the state government, besides sanctioning Rs 100 crore for the project”, he said .
