Himachal Pradesh government has mooted a proposal to construct a 13.79-kilometer long ropeway system in Shimla.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said , “ This would be perhaps the world’s second longest and the first in India and Asia , which would connect 15 stations to be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 1734.40 crore, covering an area of about 60 kms .”
He said, “The ropeway will include stations at Tara Devi, Chakkar Court, Tutikandi Parking, New ISBT, 103 Tunnel, Railway Station, Victory Tunnel, Old Bus Stand, Lakkar Bazaar, IGMC, Sanjauli, Navbahar, Secretariat and near the Lift and initially will have a capacity to transport about 1,000 people per hour in each direction, which will be increase to 3,000 people per hour by 2059”, he added.
He said, “The construction of the Shimla ropeway is set to commence on March 1, 2025 and the government is taking steps to expedite the project.”
