A joint demonstration against the state government was held on Tuesday by five trade unions at DC office Mandi demanding release of funds for MGNREGA workers .
The workers led by CITU, INTUC, SKS , AITUC and TUCC leaders marched from the Seri Manch to the DC office raising slogans against the Congress government .
Addressing the workers the trade union leaders accused the state government for allegedly stopping financial assistance of nearly eight thousand workers released through State Labor Welfare Board to MGNREGA and construction workers registered in Mandi district.
State CITU president Vijendra Mehra and District Convener Bhupinder Singh said, “The present Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government had stopped the funds for the scheme on the very first day after assuming power in the state on December 12, 2022.”
The trade union leaders Rajesh Sharma, CITU, YP Kapoor (INTUC), Sant Ram (SKSS) and Ravidner Ravi of TUCC among others in their address castigated the state government for its anti-labour policies and decided to organize such protests in every district of the state.
They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Labor Minister through the Deputy Commissioner Mandi.
The trade union leaders also expressed concern over the MGNREGA workers not yet getting the daily wage of Rs 240 announced by the state government and demanded the enhanced wage for the workers and creation of more men days through this scheme.
