Acting tough against the striking employees of Zila Parishad, the state government has suspended the services of 167 junior engineers .
Forty seven hundred employees working in different Zila Parishad of the state have launched an agitation demanding their merger with the employees working in Panchayati Raj department of the state. They have struck their work seriously affecting development work in 3615 panchayats of the state .
Director, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Rugved Thakur said, “The department had issued notices to the striking employees as ongoing restoration work after the recent natural calamity has been hampered by the strike.”
“The state government has been appealing the employees to resume their work as restoration of public services in rural areas after huge losses to public and private property is top most priority of the state government; after announcement of Rs 4500 crore package by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu the state government is making effort to carry the development works through MGNREGA scheme, besides creating jobs in the rural area as a succor to people.”
“The state government has taken a serious view of the strike by the employees in present circumstances and suspended 167 junior engineers with immediate effect and would engage technical persons by outsourcing the services”, he added.
The decision has infuriated the striking employees and they have decided to intensify their agitation.
