The month of May has been recorded as the wettest month in Himachal Pradesh since 2004.
As per data released by Indian Metrology Department (IMD) centre Shimla the cumulative rainfall during May 2023 was recorded 116.8 mm, which was 84 percent higher above the normal (compared to the normal average of 63.3 mm).
In April, the rain was recorded 103 mm, 62 percent higher above normal (compared to the normal average of 64 mm, in March only 66.8 percent rain was recorded (41 percent below normal average of 113.4 mm).
“The month of May has been recorded as the wettest since 2004 as six back to back active western disturbances hit the state causing scattered to fairly widespread rain or snow damaging agricultural crops”, said the IMD .
The spring-summer season from March to May this year recorded an excessive amount of rain, 19 percent above the normal.
