The Director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi and the Director General of Himachal Police Sanjay Kundu signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday in the presence of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to set up institutional mechanism for interaction between the IIT Mandi and the Himachal Police.
Speaking on the occasion Thakur said ” The purpose of this MoU is to facilitate the police personnel by updating their knowledge of new technologies, research and analytics, geographical and temporal analysis of crime and public orders, cyber crimes, cyber security; traffic management, threat to security, people friendly mobile applications, material science and network analysis”.
Speaking about the collaboration Prof Chaturvedi said, “This is a landmark occasion as it brings two institutions doing different activities together for mutual benefits.”
Through this MoU, the faculty, researchers and students of the IIT would connect with police officials for research, analysis, training programmes and capacity building. The suggestions given by the IIT would be used by HP Police to improve its functioning by using technology.
Speaking on the occasion DGP said , “This would help the HP Police to send its officials for short term courses and training programmes to the IIT Mandi. Similarly, the IIT students would also do internships with the HP police and study use of technology being adopted by the police department”.
Regular academic conferences, workshops and discussions on the technological process, collection of IT evidence, coordination and functioning of district technical cells and problems faced by Investigating Officers (IOs) during a technical investigation will also be a part of this collaboration.
The Institute will also help Police Officers in better use of open source tools for the betterment of police force, predictive policing, workflow process, inventory management and presentations.
