A Shimla resident Anil Bakshi (63) was killed on Tuesday afternoon near Bharari Ghat on Shimla – Ghagas Highway after a huge boulder hit his car in which he was going to Shimla along with his son and wife.
His wife and son have also been injured in the accident and are undergoing treatment at Arki hospital. The deceased was declared dead by the doctors on reaching the hospital.
The accident has exposed the bad condition of the Ghagas – Shimla highway after ongoing widening work with several patches becoming vulnerable.
Meanwhile incessant rain in several parts of Himachal Pradesh have blocked as many as 260 roads blocked due to landslides and damaged roads as a result of continuing rain for the past few days . Mandi district is worst affected as 112 roads are blocked in the district. In Chamba district 42 roads are blocked and 40 roads are blocked in Kullu district.
Traffic on Kiratpur – Manali highway and Mandi- Pathankot highway remained disrupted on Tuesday.
The Indian Meteorological Department Shimla has issued an orange alert with a forecast of heavy rainfall for Mandi, Kangra, Shimla, Hamirpur and Sirmaour district for next 24 hours.
A yellow alert of isolated rain for Hamirpur, Kullu, Solan and Bilaspur has also been issued by the IMD.
