Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti (HGVS) has expressed deep grief over the passing of Dr. M.P. Parameswaran—a renowned scientist, educationist, prominent thinker of the People’s Science Movement, and founding secretary of the Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti.
The committee described his demise as an irreparable loss to the country’s people’s science movement, progressive movements, and the campaign for scientific temper.
State Secretary Satyavan Pundir said “Popularly known as ‘M.P.’ among people’s science activists, was a nuclear scientist and worked to start a people science movement from Kerala by founding KSSP, which became a mass movement in Kerala and throughout the country.”
“Dr. Parameswaran dedicated his entire life to connecting science with the common people, making the scientific temper a vehicle for social change, and advancing an alternative vision of development”, he stated.
Former President of HGVS Dr Kuldeep Tanwar said, “Dr. Parameswaran shared a deep bond with Himachal. He believed development plans for any region should be formulated based on a profound understanding of local realities, resources, capabilities, vulnerabilities, and potential”.
