Deputy Commissioner Mandi Apoorv Devgan, while addressing a media workshop organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB)- Shimla, at Mandi on Thursday stressed the need of maintaining accuracy rather than speed in dissemination of any information by media persons.

The DC said, “ There are simple tools which can be used by media persons which are important for verifying the veracity of the facts and any information flowing on the social media of any other forum to make accurate decisions.”

Congratulating the PIB for organizing the workshop, he said, “Correct information also helps in implementation of different schemes in a better manner.”

Speaking on the Challenges and Identification of Fake News, Prof.  Varun Dutt of IIT Mandi, delivered a technical lecture on the dangers of misleading and false information (Fake News) in the digital age. He explained in detail the practical methods of identifying fake news, tools for fact-checking and the importance of sharing information responsibly.

SP Mandi Vinod Kumar spoke on the adverse effects of drug abuse in society and different campaigns being undertaken by the state government and HP Police.

The workshop began with the welcome address by Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, Assistant Director, and PIB Shimla.

Welcoming the guests he highlighted the functioning of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and the main objectives of organizing ‘Vartalap’.
