The district administrations’ of Kullu and Kinnaur districts have suspended Kinner Kailash Yatra and Shrikhand Mahadev annual yataras, respectively which were to commence for devotees in July 2026 .
The decisions were taken by the respective district administrations’ after reviewing the conditions of treks and safety concerns of devotees preparing to undertake the yatras .
Thousands of devotees and tourists climb arduous treks of nearly 16 kilometers to reach Kinner Kailash peak located in Kinnaur district and nearly 25 kilometers trek to climb Shrikhand Mahadev peak in Anni sub-division of Kullu districts.
Both treks have points which are quite treacherous and many devotees have lost their lives in the past and several others sustained serious injuries.
The Kinner Kailash yatra has been suspended after a report from a team constituted by the district administration to assess the feasibility of the yatra from the safety point of devotees.
The team reported a serious threat to the lives of pilgrims and emergency response teams from hazards like glaciers, unstable boulders, falling rocks, etc., along the route, after which the Kinner Kailash yatra has been suspended by the Kinnaur district administration.
Similarly, a team deployed by Kullu district administration has also postponed the annual Shrikhand Yatra on the basis of report submitted by a scout team, which e reported a serious threat to the lives of pilgrims and emergency response teams from hazards like glaciers, unstable boulders, falling rocks, etc., along the route; two points between Bhim Dwari and Parvati Bagicha were found very dangerous. “
Deputy Commissioner Kullu , Anurag Chander Sharma said , “ The district administration has decided to suspend the Shrikhand Mahadev yatra -2026 till further notice based on a report from a joint expert inspection team and the potential risk of natural disasters.
