In a tragic incident four female teachers lost their lives and three others were injured near Balliol, when a huge pine tree fell on a Bolero jeep on Saturday evening under Ani sub-division of Kullu district.
The incident occurred when a Bolero jeep in which seven persons were traveling was hit by a huge pine tree uprooted by a strong storm at about 4.30 pm on Shamshar –Gugra road.
The Police source said, “Six female teachers employed in different schools were returning from their schools when the tragedy struck them.”
“The deceased have been identified as Sneh Lata (wife of Tika Nand, resident of village Parlidhar), Banti Kaudal (wife of Hem Datt, resident of village Lamiseri), Usha Kumari (wife of Madan Lal, resident of village Tarala), and Seema Azad (wife of Jia Lal Azad, resident of village Ropri)” the police said .
The injured include Tara Devi (47), Reena Kumari (40) and Suresh Chand (42), driver of the jeep.
The two critically injured teachers were taken to Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital, Shimla and driver Suresh Kumar is being treated at Ani hospital.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has expressed deep grief over the death of four people in the tragic accident.
Expressing his condolences to the bereaved families the CM has directed the district administration to provide possible assistance to the affected families and ensure the best medical care for the injured.
