The Himachal Pradesh Election Commission has announced the elections for Urban Local Bodies (ULB) in the state on May 17, throughout the state.
Making this announcement at Shimla on Tuesday, the state election commissioner Anil Khachi said, “The polling for 51 ULBs, including the Municipal Corporations of Solan, Mandi, Dharamsala, and Palampur, besides 25 Nagar Parishads; and 22 Nagar Panchayats, will be held on May 17 in the state in a single phase”.
“The counting of votes for four Municipal Corporations of Solan, Mandi, Dharamsala and Palampur will be taken up on May 31 and in other UBLs immediately after the polling; the election for the Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Parishad elections will not be held on a party symbol basis while the polls for the four MCs will be held on party election symbols of the recognized party candidates,” he added.
He said, “With the announcement of the elections for the UBLs the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect from Tuesday”.
“The election schedule for Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) – in Gram Panchayats will be announced within a week soon,” he added.
It is notable that the Supreme Court of India has set a deadline of May 31 for holding Panchayat Election in the state.
He said a total of 16 identity cards, such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving licence, voter card and ration card, can be shown as identity proof by the voters in the elections.
