In a major relief to BJP Rajya Sabha member, Harsh Mahajan  from Himachal Pradesh, the Himachal Pradesh High Court dismissed an application filed by the Congress nominee for February -24  Rajya Sabha election , Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

Singhvi, a leading Supreme Court lawyer, had filed an application in the High Court after losing the election from Harsh Mahajan raising objections regarding the need for witnesses and cross-examination.

The lawyer of Harsh Mahajan , Vikrant Thakur, stated,  “Today the Court dismissed an application filed by Abhishek Manu Singhvi, raising objections regarding the need for witnesses and cross-examination in the Rajya Sabha elections.”

Thakur said, “Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued that witnesses and detailed evidence were not required in this case. The matter was extensively debated in the court after which the High Court averred that an election petition is a trial matter, in which the role of evidence and witnesses is crucial and the list of witnesses submitted by Harsh Mahajan was appropriate, valid, and procedural; therefore, the petition filed by Singhvi was dismissed”.

Reacting to the verdict, Mahajan said, “Every attempt to suppress the truth will fail, Congress leaders were trying to avoid the truth even in court, but the court made it clear that the truth will come out, and with complete transparency and this is not just a legal victory, but a victory for democracy”.

After this verdict, the case hearing will now continue based on evidence and witnesses.
