A free health check up and awareness camp for Kashmiri workers was organized in Jama Masjid Shimla by members of Kash Foundation, Mumbai, recently,

A functionary of the foundation Dr. Akash Jadhav said, “This was for the first time the camp was organized for the Kashmiri workers, involved in carrying heavy loads manually due to hilly terrain of Shimla, where many roads are very steep or downhill and these workers play a very significant role in carrying goods on their backs.”

“The primary objective of the Free Health Camp was to interact with them personally and discuss their medical and health issues as many of them frequently suffer from spasms, knee pain, spinal pain, cardiac issues, and multiple joint pains,” he added .

The Health Camp was part of a commitment made by Founder-Trustee, Dr. Avkash Jadhav, who conducted a survey of Kashmiri workers from April 5 to 21 as part of his ongoing project at the Indian Institute of Advance Study, Shimla.

Dr. Narendra Mahajan, DCH, MD, Retd. Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla. The Resource Person, Dr. Mohammad Shahnawaz Hasan from the Department of Community Medicine, IGMC, Shimla, briefed the attendees on health issues and on schemes initiated by the State and Central Governments for the welfare of the labour class

Dr. Shahnawaz Hasan  said , “ Regular dietary issues, intake of proper nutrients, identification of correct symptoms for chronic ailments, physical conditioning, tips to avoid knee and spinal pain, mandatory free blood and health check up after every six months etc were main issues discussed in the camp.”
