The Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha passed a Bill on Thursday to stop pension and other benefits of MLAs disqualified by the Vidhan Sabha under Anti- Defection Law.
The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Amendment Bill related to MLAs Allowances and Pension was introduced on the floor of the Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, which was passed on Thursday.
Before passing the Bill the Opposition and the Ruling Party members had a heated exchange over the issue.
After enactment of the Bill from approval by the state Governor, any MA disqualified by HP Vidhan Sabha under Anti-defection Law will not be entitled to get pension.
The Congress government had moved to disqualify six Congress rebel MLAs who had cross voted during the February -2024 Rajya Sabha leading to defeat of Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi leading to huge embarrassment for Sukhvinder Singh government . All six MLAs had subsequently joined BJP.
Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha had disqualified the six MLAs under Anti-Defection Law for violating the Congress party whip for not participating in the proceedings of the Vidhan sabha despite being present in the Vidhan Sabha.
