
Himachal Pradesh State Election Commission has announced the schedule for election to three tier Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in the state.
Talking to media persons at Shimla on Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner Anil Khachi said, “The three phase election will be held on May 26, 28 and May 30 for over 31,000 positions for Pradhan, Up-Pradhan, members, Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samitis members .”
He said, “Candidates can file their nomination papers on May 9, 10 and 11, while the withdrawal of nominations is scheduled for May 14 and 15. Election symbols will be allotted immediately after the withdrawal process, and candidates will not be allowed to choose symbols of their preference; voters can use any of the 16 approved documents as identity proof in these elections,” he added.
“The counting of votes will be undertaken after the polling and results will be declared on the same day for panchayat election ; results for panchayat samitis and zila parishads will be announced on May 31,” Khachi announced.
The election code of conduct has come into force in the state after the announcement of elections for the PRIs.
