( Citizens recording suggestion for a better Shimla)

The Shimla Collective launched a campaign to gather suggestions from citizens of Shimla from different walks of life for its ‘Shimla Vision 2040’ to make Shimla more resilient, a climate-smart city and a better place to live in.

The campaign was launched outside the Gaiety Theatre at the Ridge Shimla on the World Earth Day on Wednesday by placing  boards on which suggestions and comments were solicited.

Uma Mahajan, a functionary of The Shimla Collective said, “Citizens and tourists shared their views—via vision boards and video bytes—on various topics such as forest conservation, water management, transportation, waste management, urban planning and construction, energy, public spaces, and good governance”.

She said, “The Simla Collective aims to bring about meaningful change in Shimla by the year 2040, ensuring the city remains safe and environmentally balanced for future generations; the organization firmly believes this goal cannot be achieved without public participation”.

“Local residents and tourists participated in the program with great enthusiasm” she added.

The Shimla Collective in furtherance of this objective conducted a survey and its findings are scheduled to be released in May, on the basis of which future course of action would be planned.

The organization also appealed citizens on The Earth Day to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness, conserving resources, and mitigating the risks associated with climate change, while simultaneously urging the government and the administration to take concrete measures.
