The Himachal Pradesh Education Department has suspended Dharamshala College Assistant Professor  Ashok Kumar from service after he was booked by the  Dharamshala Police on the charges of making alleged obscene comments against a college girl Pallavi, who died in a hospital on December 26.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu talking to media persons at Solan on Saturday said, “The Assistant Professor was suspended after registration of an FIR against him with immediate effect.”

The Higher Education Department has also initiated a departmental inquiry in the matter.

HP Government College Teacher Association has also demanded an independent probe in the matter to bring out the truth in the allegations against the Assistant Professor.

Ashok Kumar has refuted the charges against him and hoped the truth will prevail after the investigation,  in a social media post.

A former college student Pallavi had leveled serious allegations against the Assistant Professor for making obscene remarks against her and named three college girls for ragging her in a video on social media during her treatment in a hospital at Ludhiana, after which she died.

The father of the girl in a statement given to the police has held all the four accused responsible for the mental state of his daughter leading to her death due to depression.

Meanwhile Himachal Pradesh Mahila Aayog and HP SC-ST Commission have also sought a report from the Kangra SP in this case.

The University Grant Commission has also constituted a five member committee to probe the death of the girl.

Several organizations staged protests at Shimla and Dharamshala on Saturday demanding thorough investigation in the case and strict action against the culprits.
