The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has effected generation change in the party organization in Himachal Pradesh by appointing majority of new faces as District Congress Committee Presidents.
The AICC had already appointed a relatively young leader, Vinay Kumar as President of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee despite claims of several senior leaders like outgoing HPCC President Pratibha Singh, former President Kaul Singh Thakur , former ministers and senior Congress leaders Ram Lal Thakur and Asha Kumari.
The generational change was also seen when the AICC leadership put its weight behind Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu as Chief Minister of the state in 2022 after the Congress party won the Assembly election in Himachal Pradesh.
The Congress party after a gap of nearly 15 months, when all DCCs were dissolved by the AICC to reorganize the party, has now appointed 11 of the 12 DCC Presidents, except Kinnaur district.
Though several established party leaders of various Districts were vying to become the President’s of District Committees, the AICC have chosen most of the new faces, effecting generational change in the state.
Champa Thakur, daughter of senior Congress leader and former state party Chief Kaul Singh Thakur, has been appointed to the Congress District Committee of Mandi.
The other appointees include Anurag Sharma (Kangra), Suman Bharti Sharma (Hamirpur), Dorje Angrup (Lahaul-Spiti), Ses Ram Azad (Kullu), Surjeet Kumar Bharmouri (Chamba), Anand Parmar (Sirmaur), Subhash Chand Verma (Solan), Inderjeet Singh (Shimla Urban), Anjana Dhiman (Bilaspur) and Deshraj Gautam (Una).
All the leaders will have to gear up the Congress organization for elections to Panchayati Raj Institutions and next Assembly elections due in 2027 in the state.
