The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) centre Shimla has issued a weather forecast of snowfall accompanied by rain in several areas in higher reaches and spell of rain in lower regions of Himachal Pradesh for next two days till January 2.  

 According to the State Meteorological Department, snowfall accompanied by rain is very likely in the middle and higher hills of the state, while the plains and lower hills are also expected to receive rain during this period. The department has issued a yellow warning for a cold wave in several districts of the state for the next few days .

As per the weather forecast bulletin issued by the IMD center a few spells of light to moderate precipitation is very likely at a few places over Lahaul-Spiti and over higher reaches of Chamba, Kullu and Kangra districts.

 One or two spells of light precipitation is likely at isolated places over higher reaches of Shimla and Kinnaur districts.

During the next 24 hours a few spells of light to moderate precipitation are very likely at a few places over Lahaul-Spiti and over higher reaches of Chamba, Kullu and  Kangra districts.

 One or two spells of light precipitation are very likely at isolated places over higher reaches of Mandi, Shimla and Kinnaur districts leading to light rain and one or two spells of very light to light rain likely at isolated places over Una, Bilaspur and Hamirpur districts.

An alert of moderate fog  over some parts of Bilaspur (Bhakra dam reserve) and Mandi (Balh valley) districts for a few hours during late night to early morning hours  has also been issued.

Minimum temperatures across the state are likely to dip by 2°C to 6°C, while maximum temperatures may fall by 3°C to 7°C in the coming days, potentially triggering intense cold wave conditions in many areas.

With a maximum temperature of 24°C, Una was the warmest place in the state, while Kukumseri in Lahaul & Spiti remained the coldest, recording a minimum of -5°.

Udaipur, Kukumseri, Keylong and Rohtang Pass witnessed mild snowfall during the past twenty four hours in Lahaul- Spiti district.

The tourists from plains are rushing to tourist places like Shimla, Manali, Kufri, Narkanda and Dharamshala to celebrate New Year amidst snow in hills.
