
A district level function was organized at Mandi on the National Press Day on Sunday in which Deputy Commissioner Mandi Apoorv Devgan was the chief guest.
A Sub Division level function was also organized at Karsog which was presided over by SDM Karsog Gaurav Mahajan.
The National Press Day is celebrated on November 16 throughout the country and this year’s topic of discussion was ‘Increasing Misleading News and Preserving Credibility ‘.
Speaking at the function at Mandi, Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan said, “Journalism in today’s digital age presents numerous opportunities, as well as immense challenges and to overcome these and maintain credibility journalists must return to its core principles and established rules”.
The DC said, “In this era of artificial intelligence (AI), advanced technology has provided numerous advantages to the media but has also posed several challenges to journalists and civil society and pressure to breaking news and deadlines make their task quite straining and also increases the risk of falling in trap of misinformation flowing on social media, which is eroding the credibility of print and electronic media.”
He said, “The factual criticism provides important feedback to the government and administration, which helps in improving the system and make public services more accessible to citizens”.
He also praised local media for its role during the recent natural disaster.
Senior journalist D.P. Gupta, the keynote speaker at the symposium, said , “ The journalistic community must accept these challenges of information flow of misinformation and it is very important to cross check facts”
He emphasized the importance of internalizing the basic principles of journalism and adhering to them.

Senior journalist Birbal Sharma said, “The trend of spreading misleading propaganda for selfish purposes has increased in this era and journalists must take every step to maintain credibility.”
Press Club President Subhash Thakur also stressed the need to maintain journalist’s credibility.
Senior journalist Dipendra Manta stated that misinformation has made it difficult to distinguish between truth and falsehood and emphasized on cross verification of facts for credibility.
Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Kumari Manjula, was a special guest on the occasion, DPRO Hemant Sharma welcomed the guests on this occasion, APRO Vinod Verma compeered the debate.
