The Himachal Pradesh government has announced a cash prize of Rs 1 crore to Renuka Thakur, a member of the Indian women’s cricket team that won the Women’s Cricket World Cup by defeating South African team in the final match at DY Patil Stadium Mumbai on Sunday.

Renuka Thakur hails from Parsa village of Rohru area in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh and was trained at HPCA Cricket Academy Dharamshala.

Making this announcement at Shimla on Monday Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “A prize money of Rupees one crore will be given to Renuka Thakur for bringing the laurels for Himachal Pradesh globally and the state is proud of her achievements.”

The CM also spoke to Renuka Thakur on phone and congratulated her and the entire team for their wonderful play and for creating a history by winning its maiden World Cup.

He said, “I myself watched the semi-final and final cricket matches of the Indian team and their performance was outstanding.”

Reacting to the achievements of her daughter ,  Sunita Thakur , mother of Renuka  Thakur said, “ I  wish God gives everyone a daughter like Renuka;  She has made not just her family but the entire country proud with her achievement.”

The family of Renuka Thakur and her villagers are eagerly waiting for her return to the village to give her a grand welcome and celebrate the occasion in a big way.
