Several organizations have come in support of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and people of Ladakh demanding statehood for Ladakh.
Talking to media persons at Mandi , these organizations have strongly condemned the incident in Leh where four people were killed after violent protests a few days back.
Expressing their solidarity with people of Ladakh, they have demanded immediate release of arrested climate activist Sonam Wangchuck and urged the Central government to hold immediate talks with the protesters.
Guman Singh, convener of Himalaya Niti Abhiyan, said,” Many social and civil society organizations are appalled by the incidents in Ladakh and it is shocking that a renowned climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has been arrested under NSA.”
He said , “ Since people of Ladakh are raising their voice to demand implementation of promises made by the Central government during the last so many years , the Central government should keep their promise of giving full statehood to Ladakh and bring it under Sixth Schedule and resolve other grievances of the protesters.”
Joginder Walia, President of Fourlane Sangharsh Samiti, former president of HP Bar council, Desh Raj, AK Somal from Democratic Nation Building Campaign, Amar Singh Raghava, State Advisor of Sarvajan Sanrakshan Samiti, Sant Ram, State President of MNREGA Kamgar Sangathan Ajit Rathour and Narendra Saini, President of Dev Bhoomi Environment Protection Forum were also present in the press conference.
