Congress MLA Chander Shekhar from Dharampur Assembly constituency broke his hunger strike on the ninth day on Tuesday after the intervention of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Cm Mukesh Agnihotri.

The MLA, who had started a hunger strike at Awahdevi Chowk on September 7 against  authorities of Ministry of Transport and Road Highways (MoRTH)  constructing four lane National Highway no 3 from Atari to Leh for alleged irregularities in the project , ended the hunger strike on Tuesday .

Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri offered a glass of juice to the MLA and other people observing hunger strike in solidarity with the MLA.

Chander Shekhar said, “After the intervention of CM Sukhu and Deputy CM Agnihotri I ended my hunger strike and would continue to fight for the people of the area as the construction companies have been endangering lives of locals and environment of the area by violating norms.”

Deputy CM Agnihotri said, “The state government will take up all demands raised by the MLA and local people with the Central government at the highest level.” 

He also visited Dharampur bus stand to take stock of the damages to HRTC buses and property.
