Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the first unit (1×660 MW) of 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project being commissioned by Satluj Jal Vigyan Nigam (SJVN) on Friday.

 The ceremony was attended by Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Ministers, and other prominent dignitaries.

The event was also attended by Pankaj Aggarwal, Secretary (Power), Chief Managing Director of SJVN Bhupender Gupta and Director Personnel Ajay Kumar Sharma among others.

The 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project located at Chausa in District Buxar, Bihar is being implemented by SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN.

A spokesman of SJVN said, “The foundation stone of the project was laid by the PM on March 9, 2019 and is equipped with the state of the -art supercritical technology for higher efficiency and reduced environmental impact.”

 With the total investment of Rs. 13,756.56 Crore, the project will generate 9,828.72 Million Units of electricity annually, 85 percent of which has been allocated to Bihar under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement and will substantially enhance power availability in Bihar and the Eastern Region.

SJVN Limited, a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh, is a Navratna CPSE. Beginning its journey with the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Project in Himachal Pradesh, SJVN today has a diversified portfolio in Hydro, Thermal, Wind, Solar, Power Transmission and Power Trading.
