The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has obtained search warrants against six private universities in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab from Special CBI Judge Shimla to investigate their alleged involvement in the misappropriation of post-matric scholarships for SC&ST and other reserve category students.

The Shimla branch of CBI, investigating the alleged “scholarship scam, had approached the court procuring search warrants against the six private universities on May 9.

The CBI has registered cases against Abhilashi University, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh; Himachal Institutes of Engineering and Technology, Kangra; Punjab West Wood Institute of Hotel Management, Jirakpur; Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sangrur; Aryan Group of Colleges, Rajpura; and E-Max Group of Institutes, Amabla, and Haryana.

A special CBI court in Shimla, headed by Parvinder Singh Arora, has issued search warrants against the six private universities and asked the agency to submit its report in the case by May 30.

According to CBI, “The Higher Education Department had given post matric scholarships to SC, ST, OBC category students as per schemes of the Central government, which were allegedly misappropriated by the six private universities in connivance with certain officials of the education department through forged documents of day and hostel students.”
