
BJP’s first time MLA Rekha Gupta, took oath as ninth Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda and several Chief Ministers of BJP and NDA ruled states.
The oath was administered by Delhi Lt. Governor VK Saxena in the Ramlila ground.
Rekha Gupta (50) , elected MLA from Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency, will be ninth CM and fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi.
She started her political journey with ABVP at Daulat Ram College, Delhi University, in 1992. In 1996-97, she became president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU).
Elected as a councilor from North Pitampura in 2007, she was elected mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation in 2012.
The BJP has returned to power in the national capital after 27 years, by winning 48 seats in the 70-member legislative assembly.
BJP MLAs Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Raviraj Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Kumar Singh also took oath as ministers.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured her government will fulfill its promise of providing Rs 2,500 monthly assistance to women and added that the AAP would be held accountable for its actions during its rule.
“The first installment of the monthly support would be credited to eligible women’s accounts by March 8”, said Ms. Gupta.
