The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert of heavy rain and snow for the four districts of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday (February 20), caused by a western disturbance.
In its weather forecast issued on Tuesday, Mausam Vigyan Kendra Shimla has predicted widespread snow on higher reaches in the districts of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur and heavy to moderate rain in the districts of Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, and Chamba.
The rain and snow will start on Wednesday (February 19) midnight and is likely to continue on February 20 and 21st as per the forecast.
The spell of moderate to heavy snowfall at many places, including Manali, Kufri, Shimla, and Narkanda, and rain at several places in the state has been predicted.
The IMD has issued an alert to locals and tourists not to venture out on higher reaches and stay at their places as a precautionary measure.
