Chandigarh/Dharamshala, Feb 1: Former BJP leader Kishan Kapoor (73), who served as a cabinet minister in the Prem Kumar Dhumal government, passed away at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, on Saturday morning.
A BJP source confirmed, “Kapoor was admitted to PGIMER Chandigarh after suffering a brain stroke and had been in a coma for more than two weeks. He breathed his last at around 10 AM on Saturday.”
Political Journey
Kishan Kapoor was a five-time MLA from Dharamshala Assembly constituency in the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha. He held key ministerial portfolios, serving as Transport and Food & Civil Supplies Minister in the Prem Kumar Dhumal-led BJP government.
In 2019, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Kangra parliamentary constituency, a position he held until 2024.
Funeral Arrangements
Kapoor’s last rites will be performed in Dharamshala on Sunday.
Condolences Pour In
Several political leaders, including the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla, and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, have expressed their condolences.
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said, “Kishan Kapoor was a dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people of Himachal Pradesh.”
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted Kapoor’s contributions, stating, “His efforts for the development of Dharamshala and Kangra will be remembered for a long time.”
Former Chief Ministers Shanta Kumar, Prem Kumar Dhumal, and Jai Ram Thakur, along with several other leaders, have also mourned Kapoor’s demise.
