Sawan Barwal, a young man hailing from Bhakhed (Ehju) village of Joginder Nagar Sub Division in Mandi district, has been named the Golden Boy of India after winning 5000 and 10000 meter races in the 38th National Games at Dehradun.
His coach Gopal Thakur said, “Young runner Sawan Barwal with his excellent performance in the National Games, has won 5000 and 10000 meters races by setting two national meet records and has also qualified for the Asian Games being held in Korea.”
“Sawan Barwal set a new national meet record by winning the 5000-meter race in 13.45 seconds, breaking the ten-year-old record of 13.54 seconds; on February 8 he had won the 10000-meter race with 28:49.93 seconds, setting a new meet record,” he added
