New Year celebrations turned tragic when a clash between police personnel and hotel staff at a hotel in Banikhet, near the tourist city of Dalhousie, resulted in the death of the hotel manager and serious injuries to an employee. A policeman was also injured during the incident.
Following the incident, a case of murder has been registered under the Dalhousie police station against two policemen, who have since been taken into custody.
Accused Policemen Suspended
The police department has suspended the accused policemen and initiated a departmental inquiry.
SP Chamba, Abhishek Yadav, stated,, ” The accused personnel, part of the additional police force deployed for New Year celebrations in Dalhousie, visited the hotel while returning from duty. A clash reportedly broke out between the officers and the hotel staff over some issue .”
During the altercation, hotel manager Rajendra Kumar, employee Sachin Kumar, and one of the policemen fell from a considerable height.
SP Yadav added that both Rajendra and Sachin sustained severe injuries. They were immediately rushed to a private hospital in Banikhet by hotel staff. Rajendra Kumar, a resident of Dalhousie, succumbed to his injuries. Sachin Kumar, a resident of Bagdhar in Dalhousie, was later shifted to Pathankot for treatment.
The hotel staff informed the Dalhousie police station about the incident. The two accused policemen, Anoop Kumar and Amit Kumar, have been charged with murder and assault.
