The election for Delhi Assembly will be held on February 5, for all 70 Assembly seats of National Capital Region.

Announcing the election schedule at New Delhi on Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, “The polling for all 70 Assembly constituencies will be held on February 5 in a single phase and counting of votes will be undertaken on February 8.”

He said, “The notification for the election will be issued on January 10, the last date for filing nomination will be January 17, scrutiny of nomination papers will be undertaken on January 18 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be January 20.”

 With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is now in effect and will remain so until the conclusion of the polls to ensure a free and fair election.

The last Delhi Assembly Elections were held on February 8, 2020, in a single phase. The ongoing term of the Delhi government is set to end on February 23, 2025.

This election will witness a contest among three major political parties: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), BJP and Congress .The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP holds power in the Union Territory with 62 out of 70 Assembly seats. The Opposition, BJP, holds the remaining eight seats, while Congress failed to secure any seats in the 2020 elections.
