( Police personnel helping tourists to drive safely in Keylong )

Several areas in Himachal Pradesh experienced the first snowfall and light drizzle of this season on Sunday.

The western disturbances led to a change of weather in Himachal Pradesh and broke the long dry spell continuing for several months in the state, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) center Shimla has predicted widespread rain and snow in many parts on Sunday and Monday.

Keylong, the district headquarter of Lahaul- Spiti district and several other areas experienced snowfall on Sunday.

The snowfall has also been reported from Rohtang, higher reaches of Manali, tourist places like Kufri, Narkanda, besides snowflakes on the Mall Road Shimla today evening.  

The sky remained overcast at many places throughout the day leading to chilly weather. As there was a sudden drop in daily temperature in several towns, Tabo in Lahaul – Spiti district reported a lowest temperature of minus 13.5 degree Celsius as per IMD report, on Sunday.

The IMD has reported more rain and snowfall at many places of Himachal Pradesh in the next twenty four hours.

Superintendent of Police Lahual – Spiti, Mayank Chaudhary has issued an advisory for tourists and locals driving vehicles in the district.

He said, “Due to sudden drop in temperature and snowfall at several places in Lahaul – Spiti district people driving vehicles should be very cautious as several roads have become very slippery due to black snow and avoid travelling in morning or evening hours.”

He has also advised to take all precautions and seek the police help in case of any emergency.

The police personnel in the district helped many tourists to drive their vehicles safely on slippery patches.
