The outsource employees of Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) held a dharna at the board’s head office, Shimla on Monday to protest retrenchment of 81 outsource drivers, demanding restoration of their jobs.
State President of the Union Ashwani Verma said, “Hundreds of employees from throughout the state participated in the dharna which was also supported by the Joint Front of the HPSEBL employees.”
He said, “As many as 81 drivers working for nearly 13 years with the board were retrenched from the service in November 2024, are on road today; there is great resentment among the employees against their ouster from the job due to uncertainty about their future,”
The protesting employees were addressed by convener of the Joint Front Lokesh Thakur and co-convener Hira Lal Verma, who asked the board management to take back the order of ouster of the drivers and urged the state government to review the decision as assured by the government during the talk with the Joint Front.
Addressing the employees, state President of the union Ashwani Verma, Secretary Rajesh Chauhan and Vice President Puneet Soni warned, all 3100 outsource employees would be forced to go on indefinite strike if retrenchment of 81 drivers is not revoked immediately.
