The Paragliding World Cup started at Bir Billing on Saturday, near Baijnath in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.
As many as 105 pilots from 38 countries are participating in the world cup under different categories, being organized for the second time at BIr Billing. The World cup paragliding competitions would continue for the next five days and has attracted a large number of gliders from throughout the world.
Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, flagged off the paragliding competition on the inaugural day at BIr Billing.
He said, “The state government is making efforts to promote adventure sports in Himachal Pradesh as the state provides varied opportunities for adventure sports.”
He also announced to give Rs 31 lakh to Himachal Paragliding Association for promoting the paragliding in the state.
President of the World Paragliding Cup Association Goran Dimishkovski said, “This is the second time the World Cup is being held in Bir Billing, which is considered one of the best paragliding take-off sites globally.”
The president of Bir Paragliding Association, Anurag Sharma, thanked the government and Tourism Department for their support and expressed hopes for hosting more international events at Bir Billing.
