Delhi minister Atishi will take over as the new chief minister of Delhi after the resignation of incumbent CM Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday.
The announcement was made by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal during a meeting with his party’s legislators in New Delhi.
Atishi was named the new chief minister of Delhi, after the AAP MLAs unanimously agreed on Kejriwal’s proposal to name her as his successor in a legislative party meeting.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reached the LG Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon and tendered his resignation to Lt. Governor V K Saxena.
Later, AAP leader Atishi, who was earlier in the day chosen as Kejriwal’s successor at a legislature party meeting staked her claim to form the government to the Lt. Governor.
Atishi, 43, is a prominent member of the AAP and has held several portfolios in the Kejriwal government, including finance and education.
Kejriwal, who was released from jail on getting bail from the Supreme Court on Friday, had announced to resign as Delhi CM.
Speaking to reporters after the announcement on Tuesday, Atishi said she will be the chief minister “for a few months till the Assembly Election due in February next.”
Calling Kerjiwal her guru , she said “I will work with just one goal; we have to make Arvind Kejriwal the Chief Minister of Delhi once again. ”
Meanwhile, the Delhi Assembly will be convened on September 26 and 27, the party said
