The Himachal Pradesh unit of Kisan Sabha has decided to launch an agitation in the state demanding fair compensation to farmers and displaced people from their land, whose land is being acquired for different development projects.
This decision was taken by the activists of Kisan sabha in a one day convention organized at Mandi on Sunday.
State President of Kisan Sabha Dr Kuldeep Tanwar said, “Land acquisition for different projects is being done in the state without giving adequate compensation to farmers and there is an urgent need to organize the affected farmers for demanding fair compensation and implementation of Land Acquisition and Fair Compensation Act 2013.”
The convention also decided to hold protest demonstrations, dharnas and rallies through the state and on September 16 to 18 demonstrations would be held at Neerath, Kotgarh and Rampur to highlight the demands of Sunni Hydro Project affected people.
Addressing the convention CMP leader Dr Onkar Shad said, “Historically it has been proved the farmers have always achieved their demands through struggles and exhorted the affected people to get organized to demand implementation of Land Acquisition Act 2013 for getting fair compensation.”
Affected people from Mandi, Shimla, Kullu, Kangra, Sirmaur and Solan were also present in this convention. Affected farmers representatives from Balh, Sundarnagar, Joginder Nagar, Balichowki etc. areas of Mandi district participated.
Earlier, Vice President Kisan Sabha Kushal Bhardwaj also advocated for fair compensation to people whose land has been acquired for various projects by applying Factor 2.”
