The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi has launched a new programme in Music and Musopathy from the current academic session- M.S. (by research) and PhD programs in Music and Musopathy.
The programmes based on deep connection between music, health and technology would try to create vibes for individual and collective well being is being started by IIT’s Centre for Indian Knowledge System and Mental Health Application (IKSHMA). Telling about the new program, Director of the institute Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, said, “IIT Mandi is committed to developing science and technology relevant to the Indian knowledge system; M.S. and PhD programs in Music and Musopathy represent another significant step in this endeavor. This program will not only explore the science of Indian music, but also it’s therapeutic value for the holistic well-being of mind, body, consciousness and are research based.”
“This initiative underscores our commitment to promoting interdisciplinary learning and contributing to the highly regarded field of Indian music and the burgeoning field of Musopathy. The program is open to both full-time and part-time candidates and can be pursued live, online, or in a hybrid format by all qualifying candidates, regardless of geographical location” , he adds .
The institute has roped in celebrity advisors and icons of music and dance along with scientist like Padma Vibhushan Awardee Dr Sonal Mansingh, percussion maestro Prof Trichy Sankaran, Professor Emeritus, York University, Canada, and the preeminent scientist Dr Gautam Desiraju, Prof Emeritus, IISc Bangalore for utilizing their expertise.
Graduates of this program will find substantial opportunities not only in the classical, popular, and film music industries, specializing in music recording and production, besides collaborating with healthcare and wellness sectors.
