As the Congress High Command is likely to announce party candidates for ensuing parliament and six Assembly by-elections in Himachal Pradesh any time after meeting of the screening committee of the party in New Delhi on Saturday, PWD Minister Vikrmaditya Singh, son of six times former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, is likely to be fielded against BJP candidate film actress Kangna Ranaut from Mandi parliamentary constituency.
His mother Partibha Singh had won the Mandi parliament seat for the Congress party in the 2021 by-election in an adverse situation after the death of Congress stalwart Virbhadra Singh.
In a changed situation the Congress leadership is likely to zero down on Vikrmaditya Singh. His name is on the top of the party survey report and the Congress leadership has reportedly convinced him to fight the election.
The Congress party has won the Mandi parliament seat 13 times since 1951 and six times by the family of Virbhadra Singh. Virbhadra Singh was elected three times from here in 1971, 1980 and 2009.
Similarly, Pratibha Singh has been elected from the Mandi parliament constituency three times in 2004, 2013 and 2021.
Vikrmaditya Singh would be the third member of Virbhadra Singh family to enter the fray from the Mandi constituency if Congress banks upon him in this election.
