Widespread rain and snow in several parts of Himachal Pradesh have affected normal life as 112 roads including three national highways have been blocked due to landslides and slips.
While isolated areas in the higher hills and tribal regions received light snowfall, the mid and low hills witnessed intermittent rains during the past 24 hours tribal districts of Lahaul –Spiti and Kinnaur are the worst affected .
An avalanche in Lahaul – Spiti district has blocked the natural flow of river Chandrabhaga near the north portal of the Atal Tunnel, connecting Manali with the district leading to sudden increase in the water level of the river beyond the blocked area upto Sissu.
The Lahaul – Spiti administration has issued an advisory to local people and tourists to remain careful and not to visit high hills and go near the river, besides taking all precautionary measures.
The administration has also deployed its staff to make announcement about the alert through loudspeakers as the potential dangers of more avalanches and gien mobile numbers of the disaster control room – 9459461355 and Police Control Room – 8988092298 for seeking any help or information.
As per weather report released by the Meteorological Centre- Shimla, Hansa and Koksar in Lahaul and Spiti have received 5 cm and 2 cm of snow, respectively.
Kothi recorded the highest rain fall with 63 mm, followed by Chamba with 41 mm, Manali with 35 mm, Jot with 31 mm, Dalhousie with 28 mm, Keylong with 22 mm, and Kasol with 19 mm and Kangra with 17 mm rain.
The Centre has also issued an orange alert for the state with a forecast of light rain and thunderstorm in isolated places on Friday.
