The Lahaul & Spiti district administration has announced to keep all educational institutions shut for two days in view of threat of avalanches due to heavy snowfall in the district in the next twenty four hours.
Deputy Commissioner Lahaul & Spiti Rahul Kumar said , “ The entire district is experiencing heavy snow fall as higher reaches have recorded four feet snow and two and a half feet snow has been recorded in the lower region ; there is a constant threat of avalanches in many areas.”
He said, “In view of the safety of school children and other students the district administration has decided to keep all educational institutions closed on February 21st and 22nd.”
The district administration has also appealed to residents to abandon travel plans during this period except in case of emergency.
Shimla meteorological center has also issued an alert of heavy rain and snow in several parts of Himachal Pradesh during the next twenty four hours.
