Himachal Pradesh government has put a ban on purchase of new diesel or petrol vehicles from January 1, 2024 in the state.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “In an initiative to achieve the goal of Green and Clean Himachal the state government has directed all government departments not to buy diesel or petrol vehicles from January 1, 2024 and will have to seek the Cabinet approval for buying such vehicles.”

If necessary, the departments will be able to purchase petrol or diesel vehicles only after the approval of the state cabinet.

The CM said, “Our government is promoting e-vehicles in Himachal in a big way and the transport department of the state has become the first to replace all its official vehicles with e- (electric) vehicles and other departments are also in the process of substituting the same in a phased manner.”

He said, “It becomes the duty of our government to preserve our environment and have this initiative today itself for future generations.”

“With the efforts of the state government the number of e-vehicles purchased by government departments has reached 185 and I myself am using an e-vehicle,” the CM added.
