Professor Sandeep Kalia, Head of Orthopedics Department, Shri Lal Bahadur Shashtri Medical College Nerchowk and his teammates have added another feather to their hat by unfurling the National Flag on Independence Day at Mount Yunus in Lahaul and Spiti district at the height of 20100 feet.
A team led by Dr Kalia, which had Subhash Kumar, Piyush Sharma and Sonam (two instructors) from Atal Bihari Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports Manali, as other team members achieved this feat by braving bad weather.
Telling about the expedition Dr Kalia said, “Our team, under theme Health for All, flagged off by Dr DK Verma, Principal of the college on August 11, started its journey from Bharatpur base camp (4500 meters), near Baralacha in Lahaul and Spiti district on August 14 and scaled Mount Yunus on August 15, where we unfurled the National Flag on our independence day at 7.30 am.”
Dr Kalia has scaled several difficult mountains like Mount Manirang and Mount Harnam in Lahaul and Spiti district.

Dr Kalia has thanked SP Mandi Somya Sambshivam, DSP Sanjay Sud and Mandi and Lahaul -Spiti district administrations for their support during the expedition.
