( CM addressing Jawahar Bal
Manch)

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has exhorted young students to make children aware about the role of the Congress during the Independence movement and sacrifices made by Congress leaders.

Inaugurating the first National convention of Jawahar Bal Manch he said, “The organizations like Jawahar Bal Manch can play a pivotal role for the unity of the country and in countering propaganda to divide the Indian society.”

He said, “Congress leaders played a special role in reconstructing India before and after the Independence and we should try to realize the dreams of our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, who laid the foundation of modern India, democratic values and starting five year plans; the Bhakra Dam was the gift of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and it is because of him we were lightening houses in other states,” he added.

The CM said, “A few people are trying to distort the history of India and spreading lies against the Congress making it necessary to counter the propaganda and make future generations aware about the history of India’s old party and its sacrifices.”

He said, “Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi recently took up Bharat Jodo Yatra to spread the message of love, unity and integrity of the country braving heat, dust and inclement weather.”

Recalling the contribution of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the CM said, “he believed in youth power to steer the Nation and it was due to his efforts young people of 18 years of age got the voting right, revolution in technology and communication was ushered in, besides providing reservation to women in Panchayati Raj Institutions.”

Earlier, Chairman of Jawahar Bal Manch Dr. G.B. Hari in his welcome address detailed out the work done by the Manch.
