Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “Himachal Pradesh would become the first state in the country to switch over to electric vehicles and would be a Green state by 2025.
Flagging off an electric vehicle at Shimla on Friday he said, “The transport department has taken a lead in switching over diesel and petrol vehicles to electric vehicles when other states are still implementing this policy.”
He said, “The motive to start e-vehicles is to curtail unnecessary expenditure on petroleum products, besides preserving environment of Himachal Pradesh and our government is committed to transform existing diesel and petrol buses to e- buses in a phased manner; Shimla local bus service will be made fully electric and the state will have a fleet of 300 e buses soon.”
He said, “An electric bus depot would be opened at Nadaun and Rs 400 crores have been sanctioned for the purpose; the state government is mulling a proposal to construct Parwanoo-Nalagarh-Una-Hamirpur-Nadaun- Dehra highway as Clean and Green corridor”.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Chief Minister, Mukesh Agnihotri lauded the efforts of the transport department to fully switch over to electric vehicles in the state.
